The Journey Behind the Music
Alongside my international career as a recording artist and performer, sport and daily exercise has remained a constant foundation in my life. I have participated in road races, half marathons, endurance challenges, open water swimming events and formal lifesaving qualifications in South Africa and abroad. Sharing these activities with my children and trying to inspire them to discover a passion for sport has been my driving thought and main motivation.

For me, endurance sport represents discipline, resilience, consistency and mental clarity — values that equally shape my artistic journey on and off stage. And.. it’s also a lot of fun - especially when friends and family are participating as well! Our daughter Kateline is a strong athlete who made the Table Bay Zone team in Grade 10, received Western Province colours in Grade 8, 9, and 11 and holds multiple current school records at Camps Bay High School, including:
- U15 100m Sprint – 13.50 sec
- U15 200m Sprint – 27.70 sec
- U15 Long Jump – 4.92m
- U15 High Jump – 1.56m (shared)
- U17 100m Sprint – 12.97 sec
- U17 High Jump – 1.54m (shared)
- U17 Long Jump – 4.88m (PB: 5.05m Silver/WPHS 2026)
- U17 200m Sprint – 28.82 sec
- U17 Triple Jump – 11.18m (Silver/WPHS 2026)
In addition to athletics, Kateline is a member of the first water polo and first hockey teams!

🏅 National & International Awards
🇩🇪 German Sports Badge (Gold)
Awarded in:
2018 · 2019 · 2022 · 2023 · 2024 · 2025
The German Sports Badge in Gold is awarded for above-average athletic performance across endurance, strength, speed and coordination disciplines. Receiving this distinction consistently over multiple years reflects long-term training discipline rather than a single peak performance. It’s also a great thing to do with the whole family - especially with children to keep them fit and happy during touring!

🏊 Swimming & Lifesaving
My daughter Sofia Moriz and her incredible swimming talent has inspired me to take up swimming in mid 2023 as I wanted to share some of her experiences in the icy Atlantic Ocean (as a Nipper with LSLC). We had incredible fun joining the Lifesaving competition in Port Elizabeth/Gqeberha in the same year and we have been swimming and training together ever since.

Open water swimming demands mental clarity and adaptability - much like live performance (which is a lot less scary tough).

Parkrun Consistency
(Photo: Ike Moriz running his 50th parkrun in Hout Bay in 2019)
I have completed 53 Parkruns and volunteered over 50 times, maintaining an active international athlete profile via parkrun. I’ve enjoyed volunteering at the Hout bay parkrun as much as running the 5km obstacle course in the wetland with my daughters.
Parkrun represents something important to me: consistency over spectacle. Showing up week after week builds the same foundation required in music — rehearsal, refinement, repetition.

Endurance Philosophy
Sport is not an occasional pursuit but a structured, long-term discipline. It brings people together in much the same way as music does!
The repetition of training cycles, race preparation and qualification standards mirrors the same mindset required for:
- Touring
- Recording
- Stage performance
- Career longevity
Whether performing on stage or competing in open water, endurance remains the common thread — preparation, resilience and the pursuit of continual improvement.
